Bumbleride Speed Jogging Stroller Review

bumbleride-speed-stroller7

The Bumbleride has released a new jogging stroller called Speed. It’s a luxury jogging stroller designed for hardcore joggers.

It rolls on three large air-filled tires that together with all-wheel suspension can handle any kind of terrain.

But, the best feature of Seed is a three-speed steering on the front wheel that allows you to choose between 360-degree swivel, locked forward, or 30-degree locked modes. This is a big plus since most joggers have only swivel and locked modes.

It also features a large canopy, a large basket, an easy one-step fold, a deep recline, an adjustable handlebar, and a roomy seat.

The seat can accommodate a child from birth and up to 65 lbs (basically till college. LOL). This baby weighs only 24 lbs, which I think is pretty light for a hardcore jogger.

For this year, Bumbleride has changed its fabrics for Speed and Indie models. Before they used 14 recycled plastic bottles and now they are using 28. Their recycled bottles come from Taiwan which of course makes me wonder if there is a lack of recycled bottles in the US. LOL.

The fabric is a blend of 50% bamboo charcoal and 50% of recycled bottles. Despite the eco-friendly approach, the material is very nice and soft.

It’s nice that Bumbleride is thinking about the environment and is trying to implement better manufacturing processes. Not many stroller companies really care about being eco-friendly.

OVERALL

I gave it 5 out of 5 stars because this is an outstanding jogger that is full of great features all parents want. I love that huge canopy, love deep recline, three-speed steering is a big plus, plenty of storage, and amazing maneuverability.

This model is designed to compete with popular strollers like BOB Revolution Flex and Baby Jogger Summit X3. If you are in the market for a luxury jogger with a swivel wheel, Speed might be for you. It comes in three colors and retails for around $575. The air pump is included.

Features

CANOPY

The canopy is really nice. It has two large UPF 45+ panels and a large pop-out sunvisor that provides full coverage even with the seat fully reclined. Love it! There is also a large peekaboo window with dark mesh and magnetic closure. No noisy Velcro! Perfect!

HANDLEBAR

The handle bar is adjustable and goes from 35″ up to 46″. This is one of the tallest handlebars on the market. Shorter parents will also be comfortable. It’s covered with thermoplastic rubber instead of foam which is  PVC free. Easy to clean.

There is also a convenient grip in the middle for one-hand navigation. BTW, that grip comes quite handy when I am on the phone or have a dog leash in the other hand.

SEAT

The seat is 14.5″ wide with a 19″ seat back and a measurement of 23″ from the back of the seat to the top of the canopy. This is a very roomy seat that should last you through toddler years.

It has a strap recline system that is very smooth and easy to operate. I am not sure why they are saying it’s a lever recline on the Bumbleride site. It’s a trap recline.

It goes to almost a flat position suitable for a newborn. Of course, you should NOT jog with a baby till he is around 8 months old. The seat can accommodate a child up to 65 lbs which is till college!

Another great feature that I like is the mesh in the back of the seat that prevents your baby from sliding out of the seat and also improves air circulation.

HARNESS

It has an adjustable padded 5-point harness with a center release buckle. It includes a run-away strap.

BUMPER BAR

The bumper bar is fordable so you can fold the stroller without removing it. It’s covered with the same material as the seat and can be easily unzipped for easy cleaning.

POCKETS

Bunch of storage! There is a small zipper pocket in the back of the canopy. There are also two mesh pockets in the back of the seat where you can store small items or your water bottle.

There are also two seat mesh pockets where your child can store a sippy cup or some snacks. My daughter loves those pockets.

LEGRESET

I wanted to point out that the leg rest is not adjustable, unlike the Indie model.

BASKET

The basket is a good size. Just like on Indie, it’s large and easy to access. There is also a small zipper pocket where you can store your included air pump.

bumbleride-speed-2016-7

BRAKE

It has a one-step foot brake that locks both rear wheels in place. It’s not flip-flop-friendly.

bumbleride-speed-2016-11

WHEELS

It rolls on three air-filled tires with 12″ wheels in the front and 16″ wheels in the back. The front wheel is swivel but can be locked straight for better stability. The cool thing about the front wheel is that it has three modes: swivel, fixed, and 30-degree swivel.

That 30-degree mode is great for when you are jogging and want to be able to turn a little and at the same time need the stability of the fixed wheel. Love it!

Of course, there is an all-wheel suspension.

FOLD/UNFOLD

The fold has been improved and now is super easy! You just need to pull on two levers located on the side of the frame and fold it down to the ground. There is an automatic lock and a standing fold. The folded dimensions are 33″ x 25″ x 15.5″.

Air-pump. INCLUDED! I was very happy to find out that air pump for your air tires is included. I had to buy one for my Indie anyway.

Travel system option. You can convert your stroller into a travel system for your newborn. It works with the most popular car seats.

bumbleride-indie-2016-26

BASSINET

Not many joggers have a bassinet option so this is a big plus.

bumbleride-indie-2016-22

Cons

-Non-adjustable leg rest. Not that it has to have an adjustable legrest, but it would be nice to have one since its little brother Indie has one.

-Bulky. Like most joggers, it’s very bulky. Usually takes up all of the space in the trunk of a smaller car.

  1. Hi, Katrin
First of all thanks for the great website! But it does not make my choice easer– so many good options:) My due date is coming in 3 weeks, so I need to decide now. We live in suburb in South California and we like go to the beach/hiking/trails. I barely touch my car– all shops and parks in walking distance. With my fist child (who is now 2.5 years old and not using any stroller) i had a Qunny Mood which my friend gave to me for free. To be honest, I can not say I like it–small canopy, small basket, impossible to spot clean fabric and it broke when my son was about 18 month. So, I am asking for advice. Here is my perfect stroller features:
    1. bassinet i can use for overnight sleeping.
    2. large canopy and basket
3.adjustable footrest and close to flat seat recline for comfortable napping
    I narrowed my choices to:
    1. Uppababy Vista
    2. Bumbleride Indie + Bassinet (really appriciate eco-friendly approach)
    3. Bumbleride Speed+ Bassinet
    4. Muv Reis +Bassinet
    Please, give me some advice
    Kate
