Nuna IVVI Stroller Review

nuna-ivvi-stroller30

I am a big fan of the Dutch company Nuna, so I was very excited to test their all-terrain luxury IVVI stroller. This stroller really grows with your child from birth and through their toddler years.

Use it as a travel system with an infant car seat or as a pram by replacing the seat with a stylish bassinet. The reversible seat can face you or the world.

It rolls on four all-terrain wheels that can handle snow, sand, or uneven pavement like a champ. I absolutely love the extendable canopy with mesh peekaboo window that will provide full coverage for your child even when the seat is fully reclined.

The telescoping handlebar will accommodate taller and shorter parents. The basket is HUGE and is easy to access. The adjustable leg rest provides more stretching room for your baby.

It also features easy fold, automatic lock, standing fold, flip-flop-frigidly brake, all-wheel suspension, and swing-away bumper bar. All these great features come with a heavy weight of 30 lbs which is a little too heavy if you ask me. This stroller can accommodate a child from birth and up to 50 lbs.

The IVVI is great for grocery shopping and long walks in the park. You can fit a lot of stuff into that basket and because the IVVI is pretty heavy you can also hang a lot of stuff off the handlebar.

Interestingly enough, the US IVVI model is a little different from the European one. The main difference is the seat. On the European model only the back of the seat reclines similar to Mixx, while on the US model, the seat is one molded piece so when you recline it, the whole seat reclines.

I am not sure why we got a different seat, but keep it in mind when ordering one. A lot of US sites incorrectly use photos of the European model and then surprise parents with the US model. I know it’s confusing.

OVERALL

I gave IVVI 5 out of 5 starts despite the heavy weight, because I think it hits all the main points parents are looking for. The weight and the bulky fold are the only two complaints that I have.

Everything else is great. If you looking for a lighter more compact stroller, take a look at Nuna Mixx. The Mixx model has everything IVVI has minus the bassinet option, can be folded with the seat attached, and weighs only 25 lbs.

The IVVI retails for only $899 and comes with a bumper bar, rain cover, and a car seat adapter for use with Maxi Cosi, Nuna Pipa, or Cybex Aton car seats.

Features

CANOPY

The canopy on Nuna IVVI is great! It has two large panels with a small pop-out sunvisor and zipped-in so-called ‘dream drape’ that goes all the way down past the bumper bar providing your child with FULL sun protection.

I absolutely LOVE this canopy! It will give your child plenty of shade even with the seat fully reclined. It has a large dark mesh peekaboo window with a magnetic closure.

HANDLEBAR

The telescoping handlebar has 6 positions going from 39″ up to 42″ from the ground. It has a rubber cover that is very easy to clean.

SEAT

The roomy seat is 12″ wide with a 20″ seat back and a measurement of 22″ from the back of the seat to the top of the canopy. This is a very standard seat size for the reversible stroller.

The seat is very soft and has seat padding that is made out of Oeko-Tex certified fabric meaning it’s ecco-friendly and free of any harmful substances.

The seat has a one-hand 3-position lever recline that goes to almost a flat position suitable for a newborn. The seat can accommodate a child from birth and up to 50 lbs.

On a hot summer day, you can remove the seat liner exposing a breathable mesh. This will improve the air flow keeping your baby cool. Little babies sweat a lot so this is a great feature for parents who live in a hot climate. The seat liner is also machine washable.

BUMPER BAR

INCLUDED! The bumper bar is removable and swings away. You can easily open it from either side. It’s covered with soft fabric that is also removable. One little thing that I didn’t like is that you have to press a button in order to close the bumper bar.

Usually, you just click it back into the frame without any buttons. Not a big deal, but an unnecessary extra step.

HARNESS

It has an adjustable padded 5-point anti-loop harness with a center release buckle. Once your child is older, you can convert it into a 3-point harness.

LEGREST

The adjustble legrest has two positions: up and down.

BASKET

This basket is huge and also very easy to access from the back and the front even with the seat fully reclined. The other cool thing is that it has a divider in the middle that you can use to separate the items.

BRAKE

There is a flip-flop-friendly brake located on the right side between the rear wheels. No more shoe scratches!

WHEELS

It rolls on four all-terrain tires with 11″ threaded wheels in the back and 7″ wheels in the front. As you can tell, the tires are very thick and can handle a wide range of different terrain.

The front wheels are swivel but could be locked straight. This stroller is great for long walks at the park or for tackling snow and sand.

The front and rear wheel progressive suspension absorbs bumps for a smooth ride.

FOLD/UNFOLD

The fold is easy, but you have to remove the seat before folding the stroller. This is one of the main differences between IVVI and Mixx. In Mixx, you can fold it with the seat attached.

On the other hand, the IVVI is very heavy at 30 lbs including the seat, so it would probably be easier to remove the seat first and then fold the frame.

That way, you won’t have to lift the whole 30 lbs when loading it into your car. It also has an automatic lock and standing fold. The folded dimensions are 29″H x 19″ W x 25″L.

TRAVEL SYSTEM

Turning your stroller into a travel system is super easy. You can replace the seat with a Nuna Pipa car seat by using the included car seat adapters. Note: The IVVI model works ONLY with the Nuna Pipa car seat.

Included car seat adapters work with Maxi Cosi, Nuna Pipa, or Cybex Aton car seats.

BASSINET

You can turn your stroller into a stylish pram by replacing the seat with a bassinet (purchased separately). I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this bassinet. The design, the materials the little features are to die for! It’s deep and keeps its shape very well.

The silver frame and a handlebar make it look modern and luxurious. The top cover provides a warm space for a little one but could be easily removed by unzipping it from both sides.

There is also a hidden storage compartment in the front of the bassinet that you can use to store small essentials.

The cozy mattress is reversible to match the cold or warm weather. So your child will not be sweating on a hot summer day.

I think that it’s much easier to protect your baby from cold weather by putting a bunch of warm clothes on them than to provide good air circulation and a cooler environment during hot days. So, you will really enjoy this feature if you live in a hot climate.

Speaking of environment, the bottom of the bassinet underneath the soft mattress is made out of real wood. This is the best way to regulate temperature since wood doesn’t get too hot or too cold, unlike plastic.

It also provides your child with toxic-free place. It’s worth mentioning that everything is made using certified Oeko-Tex fabric.

In case of a mess, you can easily remove the mattress cover and wash it. BTW, the sides inside of the bassinet are covered with soft fabric so your baby will feel cozy.

nuna-ivvi-stroller22

A great thing about this carrycot is that it can be used as a pram or standalone. You can put it on the ground without worrying about it getting dirty. The little legs attached to the bottom of the carrycot will protect the fabric.

You can also use this bassinet as an extra sleeping place for your child at home. You can use it from birth and up to 17 lbs or up to 29.5″. The bassinet by itself weighs 13.1 lbs. Together with the frame it weighs 32.3 lbs. Heavy! I hope you are not going to lift it up with the bassinet attached.

nuna-ivvi-stroller23

The canopy on the IVVI carrycot is great! It’s a large size with a small pop-out sunvisor and for even more protection you can pull out a dream drape that will provide your child with FULL coverage.

What I really like is the hidden inside of the drape magnets that you can use to easily and quietly attach the dream drape to the frame of the bassinet. No buttons, no clips, no hooks. Simple! When not needed dream drape can be put away using a hidden pocket underneath the canopy.

nuna-ivvi-stroller25

Another great feature that provides better air circulation is a hidden mesh in the canopy. This helps keep your baby cool on a hot summer day.

Cons

-No accessories. There is a very limited amount of accessories available right now, but it looks like they will be adding a snack tray and a cup holder soon.

-Heavyweight. The 30 lbs weight is usually seen in the convertible stroller that converts from single to double mode and needs a very durable heavy frame to handle two seats.

Since IVVI is a single stroller, I would expect a lighter weight at around 25 lbs. On the bright side, since the seat is removable you really never have to lift the whole 30 lbs. You can just load the seat or car seat into the car and then lift the frame.

-Bulky. Since IVVI doesn’t fold with the seat attached, the whole package will take up all of your room in the trunk. It’s also not very travel-friendly because of the bulkiness.

  1. Hi Katrin,

Thanks so much for the great review. I’m really torn between the Nuna Mixx and the Ivvi for our first baby due in 11 weeks. I like the bassinet option for the Ivvi but I feel slightly put-off by the weight and size of the Ivvi. Annoyingly nowhere in Houston seems to stock the Ivvi so I can’t go and check it out myself. I also like that the Ivvi can strip down the the mesh level as it gets pretty hot in Houston! Does the Mixx do that also? What stroller do you suggest we go for? Is the weight a big issue, or do you think the other pros for the Ivvi outweigh it?

    Thanks!

  2. Hi Katrin,

I m expecting my first child, I m deciding between Nuna IVVI and Nuna Mixx, what do you think? Moreover, do u think I should have two stroller in the future if I m having the 2nd one in the next 2 yrs? (I m thinking one Nuna + UPPAbabe Vista)
I would very much like to have your opinion. Thanks so much!

  3. Hi Phoebe. If you really want to have a second child in the next 2 years, I would get a convertible stroller like Vista. You can also get a light inexpensive umbrella stroller (single) for quick trips. That way you covered!

  4. Hi Katrin, first time mother, I am also trying to decide between the Nuna Ivvi and the Nuna Mixx. We were able to see the Mixx in person at Nordstrom, but not the ivvi. I would like something that can be all terrain and something I can keep my newborn in this summer for walks at the park and trails around us, but not sure if I want to buy the bassinet for the ivvi. I plan on buying the pipa so it will work with either. What does the ivvi have that makes it worth the extra $300 over the Mixx?

  5. Hi Tanya. I like Mixx a little more because of the recline (the back of the seat reclines instead of the whole seat so your child can stretch). The main benefits of IVVI are a little tougher wheels and bassinet option. That’s it. Since the Mixx has that flat recline, you really don’t need to get a bassinet. I would go with Mixx.

  6. Hi Katrin,

I have bought the Nuna ivvi for our little one who is due next month. We have also bought the foot muff to go with it. Is the travel cot essential? It does say that it lies flat and is suitable for birth.
    Many thanks

  7. The ivvi stroller, does it work with maxi cosi car seat?
It says it works only with nuna Pipa car seat, but then it is mentioned that you can also use maxi cosi car seat. I am a little bit confused.
