UPPAbaby G-Lite Stroller Review

The UPPAbaby G-Lite is a light umbrella stroller that is a smaller and lighter version of the G-Luxe model. Weighing only 11 lbs, it’s perfect for running errands and public transit.

The narrow frame allows you to easily navigate in narrow store aisles and small spaces. It’s very easy to push even with a heavy child in the seat.

It rolls on 4.7″ double plastic wheels that can tackle some of the mommy terrains like grass or mulch. While the all-wheel suspension absorbs some of the bumps, G-Lite is clearly designed for flat surfaces.

It has a roomy mesh seat that sits at a slight angle. For this year, they’ve added a small zipper recline, but you still have to use it from 6 months. Honestly, I was very surprised to see a high 55 lbs weight limit. It should take you through all the toddler years without a problem. BTW, there is NO TRAVEL SYSTEM option which I didn’t expect to see on 11 lbs stroller.

The large basket underneath the seat (for an umbrella model) can fit a medium size diaper bag. Of course, I wouldn’t go grocery shopping with it, but you can fit all of the baby essentials (up to 10 lbs).

I was also able to attach an organizer to the handlebars for small essentials and a cup holder. BTW, the cup holder is included, but it is more secure and easier to access my coffee from the organizer. Anyways, if you take a 55 lbs child and add another 10 lbs for the stuff in the basket, this baby can carry a lot of stuff! Great for a day at the park when you are just too tired to carry all that crap. LOL.

Another feature that I love in G-Lite, is a large updated UPF 50+ canopy with a pop-out sunvisor. Because the canopy is not attached to the back of the seat, you can bring it forward making sure your child is shielded from every angle.

I gave it 5 out of 5 stars because although it has a very small recline, it’s a high-quality umbrella stroller that is very inexpensive. You can get this model in two colors for around $199. It comes with a cup holder.

Features

CANOPY

Like all UPPAbaby strollers, it has a great size canopy with an extendable SPF 50+ sun visor that provides your child with full sun coverage. For this year, it got redesigned and now has three panels instead of one.

This is one of the best canopies on compact umbrella strollers. Unfortunately, there is no peekaboo window, but it does have a “follow-the-sun” function meaning you can bring the canopy forward to get an opening in the back. That way you will see your child and get better air circulation.

HANDLES

It has non-adjustable double handles that are 42″ from the ground. Great for taller parents. They are still covered with nice foam, unlike the G-Luxe model that has plastic now.

CUP HOLDER

INCLUDED! It’s removable too. I got an organizer that had a cup holder and attached this one lower on the frame for my daughter. She loved the option of taking her sippy cup in and out of the cup holder.

SEAT

It is 12″ wide with a 21″ seat back and 26″ from the back of the seat to the top of the canopy. You can fit a very tall child in there. There used to be removable padding, but starting in 2015 it’s just a mesh.

I like this mesh because it’s not completely like a hammock and provides enough support for my daughter. The bottom of the seat is 10″ deep and has soft padding. For 2018 the seat has a small zipper recline, but you still have to use it from 6 months.

A few words about recline: I get a lot of emails asking if recline is important. I think for a younger child it is, but if your child is not napping in the stroller anymore, you really don’t need it.

My daughter stopped napping in the stroller after 17 months. Yes, it’s convenient to recline the seat for on-the-go diaper changes, but at this point, I can change a diaper in any position. I am a pro diaper changer and you will be too!!!

The good news is that it has a very high weight limit of 55 lbs. Does anybody else take a stroller to the mall just to carry shopping bags? LOL.

I even took it Christmas shopping while my daughter was at home. There were a few comments from people like “Are you missing someone?” LOL. I didn’t care. I hate carrying stuff around and the stroller was in the trunk of my car, so why not use it?

HARNESS

It has a 5-point harness that can be adjusted to three different positions. It has a center release button, but NO padding on the straps.

BASKET

While it’s a medium size basket if you are thinking about a regular stroller, it’s large for an umbrella stroller. Most umbrella strollers have tiny baskets that fit very little. This one will fit your medium size diaper bag without getting in the way of your child.

The basket can hold up to 10 lbs (almost the weight of the stroller)! You can basically put another G-Lite in the basket. LOL. It also has a decent access in the back. Since G-Lite is a pretty sturdy stroller you can get an organizer for the handlebars to increase the storage. I also was able to hang stuff off the handles without tipping the stroller.

WHEELS

It rolls on four 4.7″ plastic double wheels with front swivel wheels that could be locked straight for more stability. These are regular small wheels for an umbrella stroller. Nothing special. If you prefer hard rubber wheels instead, take a look at the UPPAbaby G-Luxe model.

It is nice to have an all-wheel suspension on the umbrella stroller. Helps a little to smooth out the ride.

BRAKES

It has two individual parking brakes on both rear wheels. To lock the wheel, just step on the pedal break with your foot. It is NOT flip-flop friendly. I wish they’d upgraded them like they did on the G-Luxe model.

FOLD/UNFOLD

It has a two-hand two-step fold. First, bring the canopy back. Next, pull on two levers located on both sides of the handlebar and fold it forward. Easy!

It has an automatic lock, but they did take the standing fold away. As you can see, the wheels are NOT touching the canopy. I am not sure why I saw some complaints from parents about wheels getting the canopy dirty.

The added shoulder strap is reat for traveling. Just put it on your shoulder and go. It is only 11 lbs (my diaper bag weighs more than that with all the crap I have in it. LOL).

Cons

-No adjustable footrest. I really didn’t expect one in the umbrella stroller, but some parents still want it.

-No padding on the seat. The back of the seat is made out of mesh.

-No padding on the harness. I wish there was padding on the shoulder straps.

-No peekaboo window. While there is no peekaboo window on the canopy, you can fold it forward to get an opening in the back.

-Brake. The brakes are not flip-flop-friendly.

-Wheels. Small plastic wheels. I personally prefer hard rubber wheels like on the G-Luxe model.

-Small recline. I would like to see a deeper recline.
