Baby Jogger Vue Umbrella Stroller Review

baby_jogger_vue1

The Baby Jogger Vue is the FIRST  umbrella stroller with a reversible seat. The unique feature of the seat is that in order to reverse it you don’t need to take it out. All you need to do is to push the back of the seat forward. That’s it!

The innovative design also includes a reversible canopy that easily works in both modes. This is not your typical flimsy umbrella stroller.

The thick lightweight aluminum frame makes this stroller so sturdy, that it can even be transformed into a travel system.

The seat has a deep recline that is suitable for a newborn. It can accommodate a child from birth and up to 55 lbs. It also features a large canopy, a 5-point harness, an adjustable footrest, and a compact fold. The small double 5.5″ wheels perform best on flat surfaces but can handle some mommy terrain like grass, mulch, or uneven pavement.

The basket is very small and hard to access, so you won’t be able to go grocery shopping with it. But, since it’s a very sturdy stroller, I think you can hang the diaper bag off the handlebars.

This baby weighs 17.5 lbs which is a little more than your average umbrella stroller. Keep in mind, that it’s important for the stroller to weigh a little more in order to have travel system capability.

OVERALL

I gave this stroller 5 out of 5 stars because, despite the small basket, loud canopy, and lack of peekaboo window, it impressed me with the unique design of the reversible seat and canopy. It retails for around $200 and comes with a cup holder.

Features

CANOPY

The canopy is a great size and has a pop-out sunvisor that provides additional coverage. It goes all the way down to the bumper bar to completely shade your child from the sun.

It does not have a peekaboo window. Another thing I didn’t like is the loud clicks when you move the canopy back and forth. The clicks can easily wake up a sleeping child. It attaches to the back of the seat with multiple noisy Velcros. I would like to see a zipper instead.

HANDLEBARS

It has two handlebars covered with nice foam that are located 41″ from the ground. These are tall handlebars that are a little higher than on your average umbrella stroller. baby_jogger_vue16

SEAT

The seat is 12″ wide with 22″ seat back and a measurement of 26″ from the back of the seat to the top of the canopy. This is a very roomy and tall seat. It can accommodate a child from birth and up to 55 lbs.

It has one-hand lever recline that goes to almost a flat position so you can put your newborn into the seat. Of course I would recommend waiting at least till your little one is 3 months old before putting him into the seat. It has a travel system capability.

The unique feature of this stroller is that it has a REVERSIBLE seat. This is the first umbrella stroller with a reversible seat. To reverse the seat all you need to do is squeeze the lever you use to recline it and push the seat back forward. That’s it!  Basically Vue has a seat on each side and you just change the position of the back of the seat. Very easy!

Even in the reverse mode, the recline goes almost flat and it also has an adjustable leg rest. Wondering what happens to the canopy after reversing the seat? The canopy doesn’t need to be removed because it’s also reversible. You just need to reverse the material of the canopy and reattach it to the back of the seat. Nice! baby_jogger_vue22

In the forward position, you can use the seat in the back as storage. Of course, this additional storage place will go away once you recline the seat. But I still think it’s a great place to store a few toys or a snack.

HARNESS

It has an adjustable padded 5 point harness that comes with a hard to do buckle. They also decided to include a padded head rest for additional support for smaller babies. Those little ones need all the head support they can get.

LEGREST

The leg rest that is part of the seat is adjustable and it has multiple positions. You can even put it all the way up so it’s vertical to crate a bed like environment for you child. There is also a foot rest for older toddler that is attached to the frame of the stroller.

Once you reverse the seat, it still has an adjustable legrest, but there is no foot rest for older toddlers. Most toddlers don’t want to look at their parents anyways. We become old news. LOL.

BASKET

The basket is very small and is hard to access. You won’t be able to fit a diaper bag in it (regardless of the size). It’s tiny! I think it’s smaller than most umbrella strollers that weigh over 15 lbs.

You can usually see tiny baskets like this on very simple umbrella strollers that are very light (like 11 lbs). I hope they can improve it in the future.

BRAKE

You can lock the rear wheels with just one step. It’s not flip-flop-friendly. I guarantee some shoe scratches.

WHEELS

It rolls on four hard rubber 5.5″ wheels. All four wheels are double. The frown wheels are swivel but can be locked straight for rough terrain. Like most umbrella strollers, the Vue model is design for flat surfaces and doesn’t handle terrain that well.

FOLD/UNFOLD

You will need both hands to fold this one. It’s just like you fold any other umbrella stroller. I really like that you can fold it with the seat facing either direction. First, bring the canopy back and lift up the lever located at the cross bar with your foot.

This will partially unlock the frame. Next, step on the side lever and bring the handle bars forward till it folds till you hear the automatic lock. It has a compact fold with folded dimensions of 42.25″Lx 11.50″H x 13.25″W.

There is a carry handle on the side of the stroller so you can easily lift and carry the stroller with you.

PRAM

There is a soft pram that you can insert into the reclined parent-facing seat and the foot cover can be zipped away for all-season use. It will provide your newborn with a soft and cozy spot for naps on the go. Great feature! It retails for around $60 on Amazon.

  • Nuna Pipa
  • Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP/SIP 30/4-35

Cons

-Small basket. The basket is so small, that you can’t even fit a small diaper bag. It’s also very hard to access especially with the seat fully reclined.

-No peekaboo window. This is not a big deal but would be nice to have.

-Loud canopy. The canopy makes a lot of loud clicks when you adjust it.

  1. I bought this pram and love the way it handles the color the way you face baby towards you so impressed by this. My two niggles with it are seat harness not big enough even when at fill extent my 2 year old can not fit unless he has no coat on. He average weight. But vue goes up to 55lbs which is fantastic as we walk a lot this was one reason I purchased this pushchair. So definately needs bigger harness. And the seat not padded would be uncomfortable if was sat in for a long time. I love the pushchair but the straps really let it down. I ordered this from america I live in england as I loved it so much

  2. Hi Sheryl. Your child probably has a winter coat on and that’s why it’s not fitting in. I would just disconnect the shoulder straps and use the waist straps only.

  3. Hi Katrin thank you for your reply do you know where I can purchase a larger harness? A wonderful pram but its the waist straps which are too small even for a smaller baby . thank you sheryl
